RV "Hitting a Wall"...

Even if you "hit a wall", you still might be okay! In mid-2000's an RV-6 hit a parked dump truck in a Dept. of California parking lot, yet both pilot and pax survived! Upon impact, their bodies were thrown forward which pulled on their shoulder straps and transferred the deceleration G load to the tail cone where the steel wires attach. This pulled the tail cones together, and when they got to the point where they couldn't do that any more, the double row of rivets (that attach the baggage area fwd fuselage to the tail cone), all sheared off! This then allowed the tail cone to slide forward, and both pilot and pax received deep lacerations when their heads hit the metal front edge of the instrument panel cover; but they did thankfully survive. Just shows how important it is to properly control the aircraft all the way to the flare, and not allow it to hit hard which is never good on internal organs!

thread drift. the glare shield edge should make us aware of danger. this may not be the final solution but it may help. a hard round shape. an idea stolen from Kevin Horton.

RV 9A brs
Aero classic makes an excellent cushioned edge for the instrument panel edge. I installed one. Very easy. Looks good.

Coming back to the idea of a parachute, this video, showing the ground test of the BRS installed in the Glasair Sportsman, gives an idea of the energy involved in firing the parachute rocket.

I am building a 7A with a chute, should be flying this week. I have a IO390 so not too worried about the extra weight in the back. Hit my up with questions.

Kitplanes article
Read the article in Kitplanes. Looks and sounds very good. Nice to have this as an option as more spouses that aren’t pilots can attest to. My wife is a bit nervous if anything ever happened to me and she has to try to land it.

1 year ago I installed a 140 sqm Galaxy parachute in my RV7A. So far I flew 80h (including 6g aerobatics) with no issues. Externally the plane is no different from any other rv7a, which, along with CG balance, was the main reason NOT to go for the BRS kit (I even met in person BRS CEO to convince him to change his design before deciding to invent one myself!). I designed the installation myself with the help of Galaxy CEO who flew over to physically witness the installation. The installation is just behind the firewall, on the passenger side. It deploys upward in front of the windshield. The 4 main cables are attached: 2 to the engine mount, and 2 to the rear spar. To reach the rear spar they come out from the plastic engine cowl from the bottom and immediately enter the front part of the wing root fairing. These 4 cables are made of steel, to withstand an engine fire.
A picture of the installation (that's all is visible as difference with any other RV7A):

Ideally it should deploy like this:
