The RV-1 restoration is ahead of schedule for debut at SnF 2012 - and with the arrival of a fresh O-290-D2 engine, work generously donated by Aero Sport Power on the original engine, the firewall forward tasks have begun. Other generous donations include an alternator from Plane Power, lightweight starter from Sky-Tec, spark plugs from Aircraft Spruce, prop extension from Saber Mfg, custom propeller from Catto, exhaust from Vetterman, engine mount from McCutcheon, hoses from Bonaco and TS Flightlines, and a baffle kit from Van's Aircraft. Vendor support for restoring the RV-1 has been overwhelming. THANK YOU vendors and volunteers for your support!
Amidst the excitement of overwhelming vendor and volunteer support during the RV-1 restoration, little or no attention has been given to the upcoming expenses associated with the "RV-1 Summer Tour" or the AirVenture "Tribute to Van". With the restoration nearing completion, the road is now paved for the RV community recognize and truly say "Thanks to Van" with the RV-1 Summer Tour and opening day AirVenture Tribute to Richard VanGrunsven. While the restoration has been largely supported by generous vendor donations and volunteer efforts, the The Summer Tour and AirVenture Tribute needs your financial support to cover expenses. Many of you have already expressed your "Thanks to Van" with a generous donation to help with these expenses, and your support is sincerely appreciated. That's the up-side... the down-side is that the donations received so far will only cover 15% of the projected expenses for the Tour and Tribute to Van. If you haven't already expressed your "Thanks to Van", and it's within your budget, please consider making a generous *tax deductible donation today.
