SL-30 Intercom vs Stand Alone

Something I didn't know about my new (to me) SL-30 is that it has a built-in voice activated intercom. Are you SL-30 owners using this feature, or a stand alone box? I'm looking at interfacing the SL-30 with a Skyview system, and it would be nice not to have to buy another box for this function. Any disadvantages to the SL-30's built-in vs Dynon's box?

The issue with SL30/SL40 intercoms seems to be that people don't know how to adjust the microphone squelch, which is available separately for each mic from the systems menu. Also, some don't like the intercom audio ducking the level of comm receive audio; you need ready access to a panel switch to turn off the intercom to prevent that.

You want a stand alone intercom not only for the reason already given but to get audio alerts from Skyview, you need inputs the SL30 does not have. It is a great radio, you will love how it works with Skyview.
