Power Device for electric engine heaters

Anyone tried these in your hangar?

It is a duplex 120V electrical outlet plug that cycles power on and off depending on temperature.

There are various models but the TC-3 which comes on at 35 and off at 45 looks promising and cheap at less than $20.

Vern, we use some similar devices at work to turn on the heat on tanks that contain materials which don't do well when they get cold.

The switch you've identified should work well in your application if you're OK with the heater cycling on/off.

Myself, I have a programmable timer I set to heat my engine at times when I plan to fly.

I've also wondered how things would work if I just left a low powered silicone heater permanently attached. Something like this:

Vern: I followed suit on my just completed rv7 and installed a 200 watt crankcase heater, jb weld to the sump after removing the magnets. I leave it on all the time in the winter. Hanger rent pays for the electricity. I haven't kept up with any numbers but even on colder nights say below 32? here the engine oil is warm enough 75?. I keep a packing blanket on the cowl as extra insulation. After bein in the HVACR industry all my life i could come up with hundreds of ways to control or measure the temp and it's just now worth my time or effort. I will not hook it up as soon as the nite temps get up 60-70 degrees.

My hanger mate has 1100 hours on his rv-7a on the same crankcase heater for 11 years now.

I am using Aeroshell 100w in my 810 Hour Mattituck O-320D2a
