jet and nozzle confusion...

I am about to modify my jet for my carb. I have not yet removed the carb and still trying to read up on the issue.
One thing the puzzles me after reading alot about this, is the nozzle and the jet the same item, or is the jet separate?

I have a MA-4SPA 10-5217

I have found several exploded views and crossections of this carb and some shows the jet and nozzle as one part, others shows them as separate.

I just want to have a better understanding before I turn myself lose and dig into the carb :)

Nozzle and jet

I might be incorrect on this, but I've always thought of the nozzle as a coarse device that introduces the fuel into the carb; and the jet provides a metering capability to calibrate the nozzle to the application at hand.
