I'd recommend using either this or these with an AN931 grommet. A judicious application of proseal or DC736 sealant will keep things air/water tight.

I don't know how the battery wire gets routed on a 8. I am building a 10. I used a blue sea terminal pass through. I terminated the battery cable on the cabin side and then a short copper bus to the starter solenoid. Don't know it this is even an option for your 8.
