Dynon AoA Pitot

Did some searching but all old and the emails don't work.

Looking at a retrofit of an RV6A with a Dynon AoA Pitot.

Just done an RV8 but the 6 structure is a lot different. Looking for routings of tubing etc to the rear mounted ADAHRS.

Just completed this on our 9A.

We weren't comfortable with the all wires and now a second pneumatic tube running upwards between the fuselage skin and rudder cable, ahead of the spar.

We de-riveted the left seat pan and cargo floor to be able to route the blue and green lines underneath. This involved disconnecting all the flap tube mounting blocks and the centre pillar so that everything could be lifted to fold the cargo floor up for access.

To remove the seat pan we had to de-rivet all pop rivets and the centre channel solids. For the left cargo floor we removed only the pop rivets and then only those ahead of a line extending from the inboard forward right corner to the outboard rear left corner.

If you choose to go this path, how you get the lines through the various formers will be something you need to figure out for yourself.

Another option might be to run everything forward through the spar, under the central floor between the rudder pedals, up the back of the firewall and rearward under the canopy rails.

Hope that helps.

Pat.

I can't help on the ADAHRS but I did do a Dynon pitot retrofit on my RV6. I'll post my installation in case it helps.

In my initial installation I had the pitot line between the fuel tank and the spar. I removed the fuel tank and routed the new AOA and pitot lines the same way. I mounted the Dynon pitot inboard of the inspection cover and fabricated a stiffener assembly that connected to an existing vertical angle on the aft side of the spar.

If the photos are not showing try this direct link to my shared RV6 Dynon Pitot installation photos showing what I did. As always there would be other ways to accomplish the installation.

Here is the finished view looking outboard with the fuel tank still removed. I mounted the Dynon temperature probe in the hole for the original Van's pitot tube.

I did NOT use the Dynon supplied aluminum angle stiffener on my RV6. I came up with this instead. This is a photo of the assembly before installation.

Here is a view of the finished installation looking inboard. Before I did the installation, I verified I had plenty of clearance between the stiffener angle and the aileron push tube throughout the range of motion. I removed some of the stiffener angle to make sure I had ample clearance for the pitot heating wires and the pitot and AOA lines.

Hey Ralph,

Thanks for that, the photos didn't show.

Wonder if you would send them direct please

trent772 at graffika dot biz

Thanks

Sorry the Google photos don't appear for you. I see them fine and I tried to follow the previously posted directions for posting Google photos.

Here is a direct link to my shared RV6 Dynon Pitot installation photos showing what I did. As always there would be other ways to accomplish the installation and maybe this will help generate other ideas.

Hope this link works for everyone.
