GMA 245 cabin speaker

Since Garmin's GMA 245 audio panel has a cockpit speaker output, anyone have suggestions as to what brand/model worked well for you (or not)? This is just to listen to ATIS before engine start, etc. Garmin lists specs of 4 ohms, 3W max.

Was thinking one of these guys.

Hello Heinrich,

There are plenty of choices, but just for reference, we installed this 3.3 inch, 10W, 4 ohm speaker into our RV-7A, and it works great with the GMA 245.

Go to Frys

Heinrich,

Go to Frys and pick up one of theses. They are pretty cheap. Put a speaker jack in that beautiful panel or out of view and plug it in when you need it. Unless you want something permanent. It comes with a attached cord and 3.5 mm plug.

BTW, I received the parts. Working on wiring it up now. Thank you.

Steve, thanks for that. Where in your -7A did you install it? Cut a hole in the fwd instrument panel bulkhead? Or install it in the main panel with a grille?

Brian, was thinking along those lines at first but since I have my panel ripped out of the airplane at the moment (remember my prototype AC system?) I thought I'd install something permanent ala what Steve used.

I installed something similar...just a small speaker I found on Amazon or Ebay or something.

I just found a convenient place to mount the bracket up underneath panel somewhere over the co-pilot's side, and put it there, pointed downward. No need to get tricky and cut holes and put grills and such over it.

I only really ever use it for two things: to hear the "Dynon Skyview" when the system boots up, and occasionally to listen to ATIS before starting up (usually pick it up after starting). It's a nice-to-have thing, but don't make it a big installation hassle.
