Upgraded Landing Lights - DFW area?

Flying again!

Well Known Member
The stock landing lights are very weak. I am debating what upgrade to use (HID, LED, etc) and wanted to know who in the DFW have upgraded the landing lights and if I could see how well they work some evening. It is hard to tell from pictures how good they are and I would like to see what the light output is before buying them.

Thanks in advance......TJ

What HIDs are you using?

I wanted to see in person how much light the various light option put out....funny how night is getting darker as I get older :D

I love mine!

I have the 35W MR-16's from http://www.planelights.com and I couldn't be happier. I've been told multiple times that I look like an airliner coming in on final. I'm based at Aero Country (T31) and would be happy to show you what I got.

You can PM me if you want to arrange a place/time to meet up.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave, just looked at that website, I like it. Should work great on my -8. was wondering though, any noise? If these don't make any electronic noise they will for sure go on my plane. Thanks

You want prefabricated or are you open to making your own? You want standard amount of light, or enough light to land with no runway lights? I have a 300 watt home-brew halogen system I'd be glad to share with you (design info) if you're interested.

Planelights / Rigid are the same deal. They are pretty dammned bright.

Here is my RV10 and to give it perspective the Nervey Bay Airport is 2000m long, this video starts with me being about 2300m from the plane on final. Thats about 7500 feet away.

And they do actually light up the runway.

I have the 50W lights from PlaneLights and while I can't speak to their effectiveness (I haven't flown at night) I am running into a problem. I have them set up as taxi/land and the taxi light is giving me a pulsing tone (like a radar sweep) but only on tower frequency. Any thoughts? I talked to Rigid Industries but they had no ideas.
