O235 to O320, Engine Mount

dillardrg

I'm New Here
Will the O235 Engine Mount work for an O320?

I am doing a 150 hp conversion on my 7ECA and am curious. Figured you guys would know.

Thanks,

It depends on the engine you have and the engine you are going to install.

If they are both conical mounts (The bolts go in perfectly horizontal), then yes.

If they are both Dynofocal 1 mounts (The bolts go in at an angle), then yes.

With my RV-9, I started with an O-290-D2 and when I switched to a larger engine, the replacement mount was 2" shorter than what is used for the O-235 & O-290's.

So, while your engine might bolt up, your CG may be in the wrong place. Someone must have done this before. That or contact an owner with the larger engine, have them measure the distance between the firewall, and the back of the mount ring and compare it to yours.

BTW, going to the large engine in the 7ECA can impact your useful load.

I just found this STC, and it sounds like you do not need to change the engine mount if going from an O-235 to an O-320.

When looking for an O-320, try to find a narrow deck because they are lighter.

Thanks Bill R,

Both conical mounts.

The O-320 is about 30 lbs heavier than the O-235. I plan to install a light weight starter, alternator and battery. These will make back about 17 pounds of that.

I just sent a check for that STC yesterday.

Good luck Ron.

Come back and let us know how the conversation went.

To keep this RV relevant, many an RV'er trained in 7ECA's.

I checked the parts manual. DUH. Part numbers are the same for ECA and GCAA.

Yes, I have done the tailwheel endorsement for several RV pilots.
