Van's stabilator fairings

Caseywhite

I'm New Here
Right now I am in the process of completing the stabilator I installed the fiberglass fairings that are available through Van's. I noticed a small amount of waves in the skin of the stabilator skin where it overlaps the fiberglass. Has anyone else installed them and if so how smooth did the skin come out. I have looked for pictures on the web and none of them are close enough or high enough resolution to tell.

Be sure to notch the fiberglass that slides in under the aluminum skin for all rivet heads. The manual says to do it, but the words didn't prepare me for the amount of notching that was required. You can see my pics here:

Thanks for the input on the fairings. I am building my rv12 Elsa but the countersunk rivets look very nice.

I just installed my fairings a couple weeks ago. They look pretty much identicle to yours. I wasn't totally happy but figured the only person that's going to notice is me.

Having completed the HS SB I am moving on to stab fairing (Van?s).
I don?t understand so many notches- As I interpret the instructions, the fairing goes ?inbound? over the rib; ie skin , rib the fairing. Of course except for the 10 rivets that are rib to skin& rib to rib.
Has anyone match drilled the fairing before they install the ribs ? This technique would seem to better limit enlarging skin holes.
Thanks
