I couldn't find any prior discussion of this, so I apologize if I missed something in my searches.
As I work forward on the fuselage kit, I am thinking more about the throttle control. I actually like the idea of vernier prop and mixture controls. My arrow has a 3-lever quadrant, and it is hard to fine-tune the mixture. But if I am fortunate enough to fly formation in the future, having a lever for the throttle seems almost indispensable. And having it out of the way of the instrument panel, where a hand can be kept on it without leaning forward out of the seat at all, would be nice.
I don't particularly want to put it on the left side of the fuselage. I can fly from the right seat if I really want to run the throttle with my left hand. I am planning my plane to be completely egalitarian as far as which seat the pilot sits in. Anything that you need to be able to reach between normal engine start and normal engine shutdown will be in the middle of the panel.
So it seems like the best place for a throttle lever would be between the seats, in the vicinity of the 12V outlet and aux audio jack.
I'll probably revisit this in more detail when I get the fuselage to the point where I can sit in it and actually feel where my ideal throttle location is. But for now, I'd like to find out if anyone has done something similar or abandoned the idea for specific reasons.
