Planning Garmin A/P

What is the purpose of the "Optional Lightening Hole?" I see the "not to exceed. . . " call out as well. Is there a better size?

I know the original plan was for Dynon equipment. Do I go ahead and use the optional lightening hole for Garmin?

Thank You in advance.

The only purpose I can think of is to save a few grams of weight. I can't recall if I did it or not - in any case it's very easy to do!
