Everything is a trade off when it comes to aviation. Engine/prop combo's each have advantages and disadvantages. I look at my flying using mission requirements. I have an 8 with IO360/CS, it's a good all round combo. 200 HP would be nice only on the odd occasion but doesn't warrant the extra cost/weight for most of my missions. VNE is also a consideration when more HP is available at altitude, it's very easy to go straight thru VNE in a high powered Vans on decent. A CS in my opinion is a must to get that rated HP at t/off, FP denies an engine this. Also better for aero's.
Each to their own of course but the above combo is the most widely used in Vans airframes cause it works

That Vans smile costs money, one day I'll pay fir that by way of old age wrinkled looks...lol

Nope. Even Continental makes PMA IO-360 angle valve cylinders for Lycomings. http://www.continentalmotors.aero/pa...-approved.aspx

IO-390 cylinders are currently Lycoming only, but they did lower the price some time back.

Weights, with stated accessories, as quoted by the factory for the Kitplanes Engine Buyers Guide:

YO-235-EXP direct 118 HP @ 2800 RPM carburetor parallel valve 250 w/mags,fuel system,starter
YIO-235-EXP direct 115 HP @ 2800 RPM fuel injected parallel valve 250 w/mags,fuel system,starter
YO-320-D1A direct 160 HP @ 2700 RPM carburetor parallel valve 255 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter, CS
YIO-320-DIA direct 160 HP @ 2700 RPM injected parallel valve 270 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YO-320-D2G direct 160 HP @ 2700 RPM carburetor parallel valve 250 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YO-360-A1A direct 180 HP @ 2700 RPM carburetor parallel valve 285 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YO-360-A4M direct 180 HP @ 2700 RPM carburetor parallel valve 285 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YIO-360-M1B direct 180 HP @ 2700 RPM injected parallel valve 290 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YIO-360-A1B6 direct 200 HP @ 2700 RPM injected angle valve 325 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YIO-390-A3B6 direct 210 HP @ 2700 RPM injected angle valve 315 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YIO-390-EXP (10:1 CR) direct 220 HP @ 2700 RPM injected angle valve 315 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YIO-540-D4A5 direct 260 HP @ 2700 RPM injected parallel valve 400 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YIO-580-B1A direct 315 HP @ 2700 RPM injected angle valve 440 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter
YIO-580-B1A (10:1 CR) direct 320 HP @ 2700 RPM injected angle valve 440 lbs w/ mags, fuel system, starter

Generally speaking, installed engine weight is the most nebulous number in all of aviation.
