Default rv6 gear fairing removal?

I have the older aluminum two piece gear fairings. Is there a good way to remove these for an inspection. Is jacking the plane up and wheel removal necessary to remove the piano hinge pin?

You should be able to extract the pin from the bottom while on the gear. Just bend it aft as you slide it out, small vice grips help. You might consider retrofitting the newer fiberglass fairings while you are at it.

Thanks Jake I'll give it a shot. Do you know if the upper fairings, lower fairings, and old style flat wheel pants will work with the new one piece fiberglass fairings?
