RV-12 First Flights: Photo Album

Magic Carpet has airborne!

After several weeks hoping for the weather to improve my MagicCarpet RV-12 S/N 120832 has finally airborne. The maiden flight was flawlessly and very successful. A tiny bit of heavy wing on the left side, which will be adjusted with the upcoming flights. Beside that she flies very nicely, well balanced and yet agile. The outside view is simply superb. Max. speed. was 116kt TAS at 5500rpm at 5000' without the wheelpants.

The plane features a single Dynon 1000 Touch with analog backup instruments for altitude and airspeed. A Power FLARM traffic avoidance system and a dual port 5V USB charger. The interior consists of confor foam leather seats by Flightline Interior with custom stiches, sidewalls and all carpets.

It took me 4 years and a little over 2000h to complete her, followed by 9 month for final assembly, exterior painting, acceptance procedure and airworthyness certification.
Needless to say, that I am very proud to have finally took her up in the sky.
At this point I would like to thank you all here at VAF for your outstanding support. You are truly awesome.

A video clip of the flight can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XnAvBNFgNE

Congratulations. You will have fun! Before trying to adjust a left wing low situation you might consider flying with a passenger. I bet that the weight in the right seat may just balance the plane out.

This /\ Friend Bob Lang put my 250 #'s in the passenger seat with 13-14 gallons in the tank, and his 2015 build RV-12 lost the heavy left wing, plane has been that way 125 hrs of flight time. They are Sport Light classification planes, they may fly fast, but they are weight sensitive. Bob is 190 #.

It was a long time coming, but sn 461 first flew today as N461DG.
After an hour of flying with no squawks, came back home for a smooth landing.
With lots of modifications including wing tanks and a Honda automobile engine, it flew wonderfully!

Don,
Congratulations are in order on 1st flight. Yours is certainly one of the most highly modified of the EAB 12's and I'm glad to hear she flies well.

I have not personally flown it yet, my test pilot only has one other RV12 to compare it with. He claims he can detect the fact that it is a bit heavier, but prefers it to the ELSA one I have.

Hey Don,
Good to see AF1 finally take to the air.
Full marks for perseverance! Glad it flies well.

First flight N962TF

First flight of N962TF took place at Hollister, California KCVH September 19, 2020.

There are way to many people to thank! The support staff at VAN’S helped answer many questions, gave excellent advice and Mitch(the president) even answered the support phone line one day too. All the kind humans helping at EAA Chapter 20, other plane owners and builders in and around San Carlos(KSQL) gave endless support. And folks on this forum have allowed us to stand on the shoulders of giants. Additionally, many young aviators helped along the way learning and having fun building this plane.

This is a rough short video created with video from my phone ...

The plane is flying frequently and always brings folks back with a monster smile on their face.

Lastly, thank you dad for listening, giving awesome advice and helping. You rock!

Congrats Thomas! I am not a builder but I imagine there must be a tremendous sense of pride. :)

First Flight

On the 11 of October 2020 my RV-12iS had its first flight. No problems so far.
I started to build two years ago and it has been a pleasure to build the RV-12iS.
It is the first RV-12iS in Denmark.
It is equipped with Garmin G3X, G5, Autopilot and COM/NAV.
I would like to place a big thank you to my wife for her patience and a thank you to friends and to Van’s.

Very nice! Do you mind sharing the empty weight of your airplane?

Congratulations to Mike Rose, Doylestown PA, who recently flew his RV-12 for the very first time and has been busy completing phase 1 testing over the last few weeks. I was fortunate to have been asked to assist the last several months and helped as the second pilot on his first flight. Recorded a few short videos (links below) to document our progress.

Part 3 https://youtu.be/5AMvpdd4s0k

Proves one can accomplish great things at any age. Way to go Mike!

First flight of my RV-12iS

D-ERVM was first airborn on March, 2. What a great flying little plane. I was worried for months about the transition from my ICP Savannah-S (STOL Plane) But in fact flying the RV-12 is easier!!!

November 2020 PH-MON flew for the first time: hands-off straight forward. Couldn't believe my eyes. Now with 120 hours on her I still am amazed about her pretty lines, quick respondence and forgiveness.
