My Garmin G3X install

Ok, I'm upgrading my panel and installing 2-Garmin G3X screens. I just got the magnetometer mounting bracket installed under the empennage fairing. I plan to install the OAT probe in the RH insp. panel under the stab.. I plan to run the wires though the tail this weekend, that's going to be real fun. I have seen any pictures of others people install of these items. Trying to figure out how others have secured the magnetometer wire plastic plug. Anybody got some pics?

For more info on my install checkout the bottom of my front page on my website.

I just drilled a couple holes in that bulkhead just fwd of the area and zip tied it to that.

Kinda a crappy pic but I used the tooling hole in the aft bulkhead for a bolt and an adel clamp to hold the connector.

I ran the wires along with my static line under the seat pans and behind the flap access panels. The red tubing is the pitot, the clear is the static along withy the magnometer in the snakeskin.

Really fuzzy pic looking into the tail. At this stage of the build I was getting all kinds of stuff in the mail, I stuffed all the bubble wrap packing peanuts etc into heavy duty trash bags for cushions.

ADEL clamp or Zip Tie both work well. I ended up being the odd man out with this mounting location though and had too much magnetic interference from the elevator control horns being too close.

The system operated fine and I wouldn't have known otherwise if it weren't for the message indicating that something was outside of acceptable parameters. ( Magnetic Anomaly )

after multiple attempts of demagnetizing the solution was to move the magenetometer forward a bit and away from steel. I used my same mounting plate but supported it from two angles spanned between the longerons just rear of the static ports. Issue resolved!

Thanks for the pics!
How about some pics of your GSU 25 install?
I'm planning to mount it on the sub panel directly behind the G3X screens.

I think the subpanel is a great place. I made a rigid level mounting tray for the GSU73 before the GSU25 came out, I used it anywho. The GSU25 has a lot more mounting options. My building got a little ahead of my budget...

I found at this stage I needed to start making progress or start making mistakes, the possibilities are endless and I'll have a better handle on the next build!

It's coming alive

I'm getting close to having it done! It's still just a temporary plastic panel. If the weather would clear up I could get it finished.
I need to make sure the compass is going to work in that location.

Compass?

I have a question on this thread. We have always put our card compass up on the glair top to keep it away from everything. How are they working down in the panel? Do you get them to adjust out ok, or they just as dependable and accurate located down in the panel. We have a 700 on top and may want to move it. Thanks for the help and thoughts on this. Yours as always. R.E.A. III #80888

Finally finished, for now :)

I finally got my panel upgrade finished! Yes, my compass works great in that location. The whole reason I installed everything in a plexiglass first was to make sure it was all going to work before cutting the real panel. I ended up installing a fuse block for the G3X screens and GSU24. I installed a switch for that fuse panel. When I would start the engine the voltage drop would cause the G3X screens to reboot now I can start the engine before powering on the G3X system, works great! I kept my Advance Flight System engine monitor so it is up and running during engine start. Hoping to show it off at Sun-n-Fun in a couple weeks! I'm hoping that Garmin comes up with a cheaper ADS-B out setup for us experimental guys soon, that will most likely be the next upgrade.

After the breakfast my buddy Mark Phillips got a pretty good picture of my plane today, pretty good for a first try!
