Music, Bluetooth, Cell Phone made easy

I just finished rewiring my panel in my Rocket, and I thought that I would share some technical information on how to get music, bluetooth and cell phone interfaces at an extremely low cost.

Bluetooth for $4.00. Cell phone interface for $0.30. Not including cables, of course.

Rather than detail it here, go to http://www.vx-aviation.com/sprocket/audio.htm

I've been doing this stuff for years, but it baffles some folks. In the spirit of the open hardware movement, I thought it would be nice to share.

Cheers,

Neat tip Vern, I was just thinking about how to build in a bluetooth streaming receiver.

I hadn't thought about the use of Bluetooth. When I did my panel, I used a similar 4-wire Jack and wired it into my audio panel. It feeds left-right-gnd for music and it feeds spkr-mic-gnd for phone. I use a single 4-wire 3.5mm cable from my iPhone to the Jack on the panel. (The Jack filled a hole to the right of my two indicators)

...a note to confirm that the electrical noise cause by the sv usb port was eliminated by providing a separate power-only USB Connector referenced to audio ground... V

Now, with Bluetooth Phone

I've update my site http://www.vx-aviation.com/sprocket/audio.htm with the addition of a Bluetooth cell phone interface.

Now, depending on what module you choose and the amount of soldering you are comfortable with you can get either Bluetooth stereo music or combined Bluetooth cell phone and stereo music (also iPhone compatible).

The electrical details are described on my site.

This closes the book on this project.

Vern,
Your webpage does not give any details on the manufacturer, model number, where it can be bought and for how much, for the cell phone/music Bluetooth adapter. Can you give some information on where they can be purchased?

Since these things come and go, I didn't use model numbers. I purchased all of them on eBay. All three that I tried worked. I paid beteen $4 and $15 including shipping. The last one was

Most recently, I added a combined music/phone adapter which worked better than expected. It was more power supply noise immune and supported multiple connections... One for my iPad tunes and one for my separate cell phone which worked perfectly.

The key here is that the 3-wire or 4-wire audio interface is a defacto standard. The USB is an industry standard. This means that almost anything will work that supports these interfaces.

The only gotcha is my surgery on the music/phone adapter to remove the on board mic and audio jack and solder in a 4-wire cable.
