I made it there Friday am to spend the day and night. It was a nice flight direct from Calgary over some beautiful scenery. Lots of planes to see and the crowds were down. I got chatting with Van's soon after he taxied in with the RV12 and first thing a young girl was after him for his money right away for registration. She had no idea who he was and he just said to everyone that he paid taxes like everyone else, this is no different. What a guy, he has done so much to the aviation community, what would we all be flying if the RV did not exist. Spend much of the day exploring and soaking up the heat. It was a relaxing day.

We headed out in the morning and were back home for lunch. These machine take you places with such ease. The best way to travel.

Brice, you should have taken a picture before your loot was wrapped up. I saw your engine on display on Friday and it's a real beauty! Congratulations!

Default Some Arlington Pics..

I didn't get any RV pics this year (except the CAP kids finding some shade beside mine), but managed some of the Fly-In. I was up for Friday and Saturday and thought the overall RV turnout was a little low, but the crowds on Saturday seemed about normal, and other than the big-guys museums, the warbird turnout is basically non-existant. Otherwise, it's still a nice show, and really easy to get in and out.

Default Thanks EAA 84 project tent guys!

I'd like to thank the two gentlemen (I forgot your names sorry) at the chapter 84 EAA project tent who spent over a half hour with me and my son (11 yrs) showing us how to rivet. My son really enjoyed it. (So did I!) He started out affraid of the rivet gun, and left with a big smile on his face having learned how to drive a rivet, and how to drill one out. We have the Vans practice toolbox kit we purchased a couple of years ago, time to start finding some tools to build it with I think!

Not RV related, but I was impressed by the size of that Sherpa, that thing was huge!

That Sherpa was massive, wasn't it? Might be fun to fly though.

Arrived Friday at 0945h, left Saturday at 2000h. Great show this year, as always. A little disappointed that we ended up in row 23, instead of down in the row 7-8 area. Friends who came after work on Friday got to park down there instead. Next time i'll wait until the airshow is over and the crowds leave, and i'll move the plane closer. It's a *long* walk to row 23.

Still, met some nice RV owners there, two from Calgary in an RV that I had seen many times before but didn't recognize with it's pretty new copper-coloured paint scheme. Didn't buy any loot this time, but was tempted by a few things. Skyview, Aveo, Oregon Aero, heck, those three booths alone could set me back something close to $10K if I did everything I wanted.

Default I got to go, too!

I was fortunate to find an empty seat with some friends, and we flew up on Saturday and spent the day. There were a fair number of RV's present, and it was fun to walk around looking at all of them. I'm particularly interested now in paint jobs, so it was fun to see a lot of them and take a lot of pictures.

There were lots of other planes there, a few war planes, some new designs I've never seen before, and much to see and do. I had fun going through the tents where all the exhibitors were with their products. I learn something new at each one, it seems. I met up with a good friend, Stephen Christopher. Stephen and his wife took me over to their hanger to see his project and we hung out there for a while (seems appropriate, doesn't it? To hang out at a hanger?) It was fun to look at Stephen's project. He's so close to getting his plane in the air. He'll definitely be flying before the summer is over. While we were there, the air show started up. So we watched it from there. Wow, what a show! The guys (and gals) who do these aerobatics are truly professionals, so good at what they do. Then some nice hanger neighbors were having a barbeque right there, and they included me right in. It was so nice. Such great people. Such good food!

It's the first time I've ever flown in to a fly-in like this. What a great experience. We left here about 8:30 AM and landed about an hour-and-a-half later. I have some great pictures taken along the way of Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, and lots of other pictures, too. We stayed until about 7:30 PM and then flew home. A nice tail wind got us home before 9 PM. Amazing. So it was just a one day trip, but just what I was looking for. No camping gear to pack. Nothing to worry about. Travel light and get there and back in one day.

Here are my pictures:
