Sterba is the best cost benefit
Recent quote from Catto:
2 Blade: 2450
Nickle leading edge: 500
New spinner: 565
Shipping: 135
Total: 3650. ..... Not too bad I guess considering their performance, but still there's something nice about a beautiful varnished wood prop!
Another vote to call Frank at Performance Props... I have one on my -7 and an extra one sitting in my office. I constantly get compliments on how beautiful my prop is and although my props were made by Clark ( the original owner of Performance Propellers) I have seen Frank's work and they are certainly the same quality.
I have no negative comments on other brands of props but I will say that I have almost 700 hours on my prop and it looks brand new.... I've never seen any other propellor hold up so well. Happy to send you some pictures if you like.
Plus spacer and bolts (another $600). Jeez, might as well go constant speed
I'm thinking it's time to replace my wood Culver prop on my -4. I'd like to put on a 2 blade Catto, but with a nickel leading edge and new spinner they are really getting pricey! (almost $4000 !)
Would like to hear any suggestions on favorite wood props for the -4 !
I have a NIB Sterba 68X72 for my fresh overhauled 160hp 0-320 carbureted. Both prop and engine have not been flown yet. So what should I expect performance wise? My main concern is top speed in cruise.

Only time will tell I guess. I heard Ed Sterba can re-pitch the prop if it's not right, but who wants to wait 3 months?

What, do they give them things away? A whirlwind or catto including spinner, backplate and nickel plated leading edge are only a couple, three grand. And by today's standards the sterba is one ugly propeller.
