We are now ready to ship our new RV-10/14 Flap Actuators.

We have four RV-10s out there with our new actuators and we are pleased with the results we have seen so far, especially in the RV-10 in which we installed our actuator here locally.

Here is a thread with one builder's experience:

http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=159862&highlight=flap+actuator

Again, these actuators are an upgrade over the factory flap motors in that they stop when they get to the end of their stroke (standard 5"), they have internal position sensors, and the safety-wire service bulletin is not required. Extension/retraction time is about 12 seconds, same as the stock units.

Please compare the price of our actuator with the stock flap motor, which just might be the best feature of our new product!

Flap actuator

I have one of the actuators that I retro fit. It was straight forward and worked out great! The actuator is definitely a well built unit and is very smooth when operating...AND... it has a position sensor BUILT IN!

This is an AWESOME upgrade and Pat is GREAT to work with!

Highly recommended...

I got the flap system from Pat for my 9A and it went in very easy. It should fit for the 7 as well. It was a pleasure to take the ramp with the RA sensor and throw them on the workbench!

I haven't gotten the wiring or the set points done yet but only because I have been out of town. Pat was great to work with and has offered me help if needed.

Flapp Acuator for RV-7

Lynn,

Here is the same type of acuator for a 7. The cost is only $129.95. It also has limit switches, and a pot for position display in your EFIS.

The mount is only $17.95

There is a hole drilled on the end, but going the wrong way. What you do, is unscrew the end from the motor assembly, and put it in a lathe and center drill it, tap and mount your rod end.

As for mounting to the RV, it is also not a direct replacement, but easy to modify.

For anyone else, you can use this same actuator on the 4, 6, 7, and 9.

Good luck.

I just finished installing one in my RV-10 this past weekend.

It took me 4-5 hours to fabricate the new mounting brackets and get them installed.

The installation was simple and straight forward. Updating the flap settings in the VPX/Pro just took a few additional minutes.

Constantly having to re-adjust the Ray Allen Position Sensor due to slippage over time and the flap motor not shutting off at full travel (which in turned trips a breaker) were the key motivation for the upgrade.

The product works as advertised, you can't ask for more. Also, Pat has been extremely helpful answering all my questions during the process.

PHAviation definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

Photos

Todd,

I have a bunch of photos of the retrofit if you want. It amounts to removing the Vans actuator, then fabricating a couple of angles to move the pivot point further forward.

I can email the pix if you want, just tell me where to send them.

Pat is awesome to work with!

Thanks, but no need. After I posted that pic request (which I deleted) I found the install manual on the PHAviation website which clearly shows what's required.
