Landing Gear Brake Line Tape?

wfinnell

Well Known Member
What kind of tape works best for securing the brake line to the landing gear? The drawing specifies "adhesive tape". I checked in my tape bin and they pretty much all have adhesive. I realize I'm probably overthinking this, but I had this mental picture of electrical tape all gooey and falling off inside the faring... I thought maybe someone has a better idea. Always a lot of good ideas on VAF.

Thanks,

Actually a good quality (3M, don't use discount store stuff) electrical tape works quite well and lasts a long time covered up by the fairing.

It also doubles as a rub protector between the inner surface of the fairing and the gear leg.

Ditto.

Same here as Scott. We have an "A" so three legs. The good stuff from 3-M that comes in 5 or 6 colors seems to last the longest and comes back off the best of any we have tried. I look at the fairing and will rap it around the leg some times three raps, some times 6 or 7 raps, so that the leg will not rub the fairing. We split some of the clear plastic tubing and make a segment maybe 1 1/2" long to go around the brake line and then just rap that to the gear leg with just a slight pressure from the tape as we rap it. Not to tight and not to loose. I like the green stuff or brown, just looks nice on that spot.
Hope this helps. Yours. R.E.A. III #80888

Gorilla tape

The same stuff Vans uses when packing sub kits. Sort of super duct tape.

+1 for the plastic tubing. Allows brake line to move at a different rate then the gear leg.
