Current O-320-D Power Chart?

Kevin Horton

Well Known Member
I'm getting cranked up to make an O-320-D series power spreadsheet, and I want to make sure I have the latest version of the power chart. The one I have is labeled "Curve 11260-A", in the top right corner of the Sea Level and Altitude Performance chart.

I'd appreciate it if someone who recently took delivery of a Lycoming O-320 engine could look in the Lycoming Operator's Manual that came with it. Tell me the date of the manual (should be on one of the very first pages in the manual), and the "Curve" number on the top right corner of the Sea Level and Altitude Performance chart for the O-320-D. Thanks.

11260-A or 13381

I have the Lycoming spec 2213-C, Jan. 20 1961 for the O-320-B and it has curve 11260-A for the B&D, and I also have spec 2283-G, Oct. 06 1994 for the O-320-D and it has curve 13381 for the B&D.
13381 shows 160 HP at 2700 rpm at sea-level, 28.7" MAP, and 11260-A shows 163.5 HP at 2700 rpm and 28.3" MAP. Both use the MA-4SPA carb but the 11260-A says fuel grade 91/96 minimum, whereas the 13381 has minimum 100/100LL. What gives?

The set of O-320 perf charts I have (it is only a partial manual, so I don't know the date) has chart 13381, but it is inconsistently labeled. It does say "O-320-B, -D SERIES" in the data block at the top right, but the applicability at the bottom of the page is listed as "O-320-B2E, -D2J".

Curve 11260-A has the same info in the data block at top right, but its applicability at the bottom of the page is listed as "O-320-B and -D Series (Except O-320-B2D, -B2E -D2J)".

I looked at the Notes in the O-320 Type Certificate Data Sheet, which list a few of the differences between various engine models, but I can't make any sense of why some models get one power chart and some models get another one. The O-320-B2D and -B2E do have a horizontal carburetor, which could affect power, but the -D1D also has the horizontal carb, and it gets the regular power chart. Baffled.

I'm interested in the power chart for the O-320-D1A, so it looks like Curve 11260-A is the current one.

The 11260-A chart got a bit wet too sometime between 1977 and now!

Probably just a legacy engine series now that gets attention only when something breaks.
