rv4 prop spinner clearance

I am having a lot of fun fitting the 1990 era cowling to my project. It doesn't fit very well and I have hacked out bits and glassed in new bits. I have set up for 1/4" clearance between the spinner and the cowling as per plans. I put the spinner on with the cowling (engine is hung) and the gap is 1/4", but it looks huge. I don't have a bunch of other RVs to compare with. Is this a normal gap for this airplane? Is it the same as other RVs?

thanks

I am not in front of my plane to measure but it looks like this.
