Go to your Google photo album, pick image you want to post, right click on that image, choose copy image location, go back to VAF and use DR instructions to insert photo (paste image location), done.
1st Attempt at posting an image:
Success following Carlos's instructions; if you upload to google photos and OPEN the image right click will show "copy image address". If you just right click the thumbnail while viewing all the photos in the album, the right click will show "copy link address" which DOES NOT work.
(GDrive link with sharing set to "anyone with link can view")
(GDrive link with sharing set to "Public, anyone can find and view")
(GPhotos "copy image address", enable link sharing in album)

Looking at the posted info you've created a link that directs you to your picture on your Google Drive not Google Photos. I don't use the drive. A quick search seems to say that you need to upload your Drive files to your photos file section and then you can link an image as described.
I think I just needed to find the sharing options in gphotos and enable the link sharing. Can you see the photo now? Cuz I could see it the whole time but that's probably cuz I was logged in.
Does anyone know if there's a way to change the image size or just post it as a thumbnail in the forums?
