Proud Screw in transponder tray

This is a picture of the remote transponder tray for the Garmin GTX 35R/45R. The problem is the the screw I ordered, a (ms224694-s50) 10-32 flat head screw sticks up proud inside the tray. The tray came with the hole counter sunk. Should I have ordered a different screw? Has anybody else had this problem.

Thank you.

I ordered a bunch of random sizes from aircraft spruce just for the avionics .. I don't recall which ones I used but they fit well. Try #8 .. not many options, you can't really adjust that hole.

Edit: Also test fit the unit once you go down a size, even if it's slightly proud the unit may not touch the screws, I remember this being the case with mine.

A #10 screw is too big. I think I used #8 screws.

The installation manual will have the proper hardware callouts in any event.

I don't know what the garmin manual calls out but a number 10 sounds rather big for a avionics tray.

I used a #6 flat head, I believe (6 places); the head on the #8 seemed a bit proud, too...

No wonder you had trouble.

The Garmin typical installation guidance manual (I used the GTX345 one) calls out #6 hardware. :)

3 locations per side. Two at the front and one as a rear support.
