Paint/Quarter Turn Fasteners

For those of you who used quarter turn fasteners (camloc, milspec, skybolt, etc.), how did you temporarily install them for assembly, then subsequently remove them for paint without damaging them or whatever they are installed through?

Mil Spec

I used Mil Spec fasteners.
I bought some extra ring clips and just installed them for fitting etc.
Removed them for painting.
Reinstalled them after.
Easy...........

I used camlocks. For the female part, I just riveted the unit in position and taped over it for paint. For the male 1/4 turn part, I used a sharp pick to deform the spring clipie part and cut it off. Then removed the fastener for paint and used a new clip for final installation.

Ditto. Flew with mine installed for 2 years before the plane was painted. Having the camloc tools for the studs and recepticles makes the a job a breeze.
