BPE IO540 clearance issue RV-10 engine mount

Greetings All,

I have been lurking for a long time and have benefitted greatly from this forum. Thanks to everyone who has contributed information in the past. This forum has been the best money spent on my project.

I have my brother in from out of state to help me finally hang the engine this weekend. However we have run into a problem that we can?t figure out. So, I am looking for some help from the brain trust regarding install of the BPE-IO540 in my RV-10. It has the cold air induction.

When the engine is in place with the Lord mounts installed, the back of the engine is resting firmly on the bottom cross member of the engine mount. Also, the the Lord mounts look like they are distorted upward. This leads me to believe that the engine is displaced upward because of the mount cross brace.

It looks like I need to have a different geometry for the cross brace in order for the mount to clear the engine. But I know that others have used

Has anyone run into this problem?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Do a search in the -10 subforum for engine mount clearance or words to that effect. This problem has been solved before.

Are you possibly using the smaller Vans Lord mounts with the "big hole" engine mount ears?

Thanks again for the ideas

I checked the match between the ears and the Lord mounts. They are correct.

Looks like I need to modify the mount geometry. Researching that now.

If memory serves me right I believe BPE has to modify the engine mount to accommodate the cold air induction setup.

The bottom cross bar needs to be replaced with a curved one to clear the sump. This was an issue and fixed established years ago, but hasn?t been talked about recently that I?ve seen.

If your engine mount is pre 2007 you most likely have a straight cross bar on the bottom of the engine mount. Vans made a change to the welding schedule and geometry of the engine mount after 2007. See this service letter. http://www.vansaircraft.com/pdf/10_motor_mount.pdf

Tim documents his issues with the mount on http://www.myrv10.com and Deems on his construction log http://www.mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=DeemsDavis&project=41&category=2306&log=27031&row=45

This is what the mount looks like pre modification
