Members,

Some of my E.I. UBG 16 analyzer probes are dying off.
P-110 EGT Probes
P-100 CHT Probes

Has anyone found a less expensive replacement from one of the electronics supply stores?

Are there alternatives or must I buy the $100 units from E.I.??

There seems to be a big markup on these.

thanks for any input.

No need to spend $100 each

Jeff,
You can buy both the EGT and bayonet style CHT probes from GRT for $43 each. If you use the "ring" style CHT probes, they are only $18 each. Scroll down near the bottom of the page linked below. See

http://grtavionics.com/home/product-guide/#eispkg

You can find them even cheaper on eBay [made in China]. Check to see what style of probes your engine monitor uses. The EGT will definitely by Type K. Most units use Type J CHT probes, but some use Type K for the CHT, as well.
Contact me via PM for more info about the eBay probes.

Charlie

PS The GRT CHT probes are J Style.

I couldn't find any info on the P-100 CHT probe on EI's site. However in the questions and answers on the ACS page linked below, they state that these are Type K. FYI, the are screw in, not bayonet. See

1st question what type J or K
2nd question are they ground it or ungrounded
you have to find out first

The EGT a screw clamp style, the CHT can either be screw in or bayonet.

E.I. also has (allows) a bayonet style with adapter.

Would love to find decent replacements, buy bulk, have several on hand and be done with it. I don't mind paying $100 for a part, but I will need 6 probes if I replace them all. It starts to get pricey.

Jeff,
Did you ever get new probes? Was the info I sent you helpful?

Charlie

Yes, the info was helpful that everyone sent me. Now I know there are options.

I plan to replace one with a lower cost unit when I do my engine service- oil/filter change. Will see how it works out for me.

thanks everyone!

Jeff send me a private message with your email address. I've got more useful info to share with you. It's basically the summary of a thread about thermocouples that was posted years ago on the Aeroelectric list. I managed to load the file onto my phone but I can't figure out how to copy and paste the info.
