Can Garmins GTS 800 active traffic device display traffic on a G3X?

Currently have dual screen Garmin G3X system with a Garmin GDL 39 antenna to receive traffic and weather.

However, due to the mountainous terrain in the SW USA there are lots of areas without ground station reception and therefore, no traffic.

Would like to invest in the Garmin GTS 800 active traffic equipment but not sure if the traffic can be displayed on one or both of the G3X screens.

Also, if it can be displayed, can the GDL 39 still be used?

Any pilots ( or G3Expert) using this equipment who can provide a PIREP?

Yes, the GTS-800 works fine with the G3X and there are a number of folks here on VAF using that combo (a couple of Ozzies as well) with good success....maybe they'll jump in! :)

Cheers,

Hello Dabney,

Yes, as Stein reports, many G3X systems are using the GTS 800 active traffic system.

Your dual display G3X system will show traffic targets on the MFD traffic and map pages, and also show traffic on the PFD synthetic vision display.

Yes, a G3X system can have both a GDL 39 ADS-B traffic and weather receiver installed and a GTS 800 active traffic system.

G3X supports multiple connected traffic receivers and automatically prioritizes these devices.

For example, your system may have a TIS-A traffic receiver like the GTX23ES, an ADS-B traffic receiver like the GDL39R, and an active traffic receiver like the GTS800. The GTS800 is considered the highest value traffic receiver and the data from that device will always take priority and be used when the GTS800 is on and operating.

G3X Traffic Priority
1. GTS 800 Active Traffic System
2. GDL39/39R ADS-B traffic system receiving both air-to-air and TIS-B
3. GTX23ES/GTX330ES TIS-A traffic system receiving TIS-A
4. GDL39/39R ADS-B traffic system receiving only air-to-air

If you should turn off the GTS 800, the system will automatically use the next available receiver according to priority (GDL39/39R receiving air-to-air and TIS-B uplinks if available).

Let us know if you have additional questions.

Thanks,
Steve
