I always use a Bob Archer antenna in the wingtip.
Does the nav/strobe lights, landing lights effect the operation of the antenna?

Cat whisker (RAMI AV-12L) on bottom of tailcone under the HS.
Seems like everybody likes them and they are priced well.
In my personal experience, the Archer wingtip antenna seems to work just fine as a VOR antenna and for the most part a Localizer antenna. The issue I experienced was in certain situations when turning on to the localizer, the GS would drop out due to blockage from the wing, which in essence creates a directional antenna. .
I have mounted cat whiskers at the top of my vertical stabilizer, under the rudder counter weight overhang, with them facing aft. Wasn't had to do and keeps the antenna elements up out of the way. If you would like a few pictures, send me your email address by private message and I'll send you some.
I installed the RAMI AV-520 into the top of my RV-10 and it fit well. Bought it from Aircraft Spruce. Just checked and their price is $280 including the whip elements.
I know I'm tilting at windmills, but I offer this is a waste of money. My wingtip antenna cost me perhaps $0.50 to make and picks up VORs at 100nm+ and ILS approaches way early - with nothing hanging out in the breeze.
