Yes the new wears off. I too remember flying 200+ hours the first year I completed my RV6, 1996. You,, 50 hours a month!! I never saw that.....

Save a year

Save a year of your free time. Get a QB kit. The flaps and ailerons are mostly done.
A extra MC Donaldís job will make the $$ faster for a QB Kit than most could find an extra year of free time

The canopy’s are too wide in the rear part. We have to preload them.
I think if the things fit better in the initial fitting, we would have fewer cracks

Do your self a favor and finish it before moving on. It sucks to get to the 'end' and have all that glass work to do. Put the light in too, if you are using one.

I think the cowl is the easiest part. Look through the fiberglass section and find my post. I use an engine block to simulate the engine
Makes it easy. I fit the lower cowl first!

It is a lot of trouble to make that engine fit. You will need to change the sump.
Reroute / re plumb the FI. Pretty sure it is a conical mount. That can be fixed too.
