This thread makes no sense!

Building tanks is really not a big deal and working with pro seal is pretty fun.

Like anything new, there are learning steps and some frustration but it is worth it.

anyone using a RV14 tail spring on a 7 or 8?

I recall a post by Van's long ago indicating that the new curved tail spring for the -14 could be fitted in a 7 or 8 for greater wheel travel margins on rough terrain.

Anyone swapped the tail spring...

The smashed tank did not leak.

No bird damage to the rudder. I replaced the original .016 skin joined trailing edge -7 rudder with a .020 folded trailing edge -8 version last Summer but had not yet...

the black brake hose fits perfectly up under the passenger side rail and through the very top of the cap strip (F704 / F704K) to get you behind the panel... easy routing to the firewall wherever.

depends on the 360 variant and how close to apples and apples the comparison is... it's about 5 to 30 heavier across the range though.

My original -7 rudder had accumulated too many cracks at the stiffener ends to go another year with it at Reno... it had been on my list to test out a -8 rudder for potential speed advantage and...

It's the same model P-Mag for both sides and the same gear... the gear on your regular mag can be re-used but the impulse coupled mag gear will not work. You need a Lycoming gear 68c19622.

turn the prop...

the plunger that runs off of the engine is pushing down on the lever arm... rotate the prop to bring the cam around for the plunger to back off and it will come right off.

NL starter failures...

I have had 3 NL starters rip themselves apart... never had the shear pin do its thing to save the casting though.

The replacements have shown small incremental upgrades.

1200+ hours with two Pmags

I like them. I started with traditional mags, switched to one Pmag after 300 hours, then swapped the second out after another 100. Now, with over 1600 hours, I have quite a bit of time evaluating...

Thatís the set up I have on my -7.

The fit is close and I carved out the honeycomb and reinforced the glass to gain some additional clearance.

For the snorkel, I cut it in two and fit each end...

I put in 7 with an oil change

For an oil change I start with 7 quarts... it shows about 6 1/3 on the dipstick; then add a quart when it drops to around 5.

Generally, it seems to take around 15-20 hours for the first quart then...

Light is great, horsepower is great :)

Note that the CG of the -7 was designed to accept an angle valve 360 with a metal constant speed prop. As you lighten the nose up the tail gets heavier... too...

The EGT thermocouple connectors are particularly susceptible to a poor crimp connection... typically indicated by a jittery or intermittent reading. Replace the spade with a high vibration connector...

For the angle valve IO390... Look carefully at the cooling fin locations on the cylinders... from the orientation that they attach to the engine you will see that 1 and 3 have forward facing fins and...

Split, fit, finger, re-join

I cut mine in half... fit the top and bottom independently, then rejoined them.

At the fuel meter... lop off the flange and lay up the opening for a close slip fit.

That is the stuff... I ordered the 18 yard roll though. Way more than needed but the 3 yard rolls are a bit short to do both flaps. Plan on using a small test piece at a minimum.

Not quite a drop in PC680 form factor...

Note that the 'PC680' form factor is NOT a drop in fit... it is a bit thicker and not as wide. I had to rock it back and forth and force it into the box. It would not go to the bottom.
