My RV-4 developed a wrinkle such as the one in your photo (but on the starboard side) at about the 3hr mark (I think as a result of a hard landing)...:-( I was concerned at first but now have 750hrs...

AL welding

Don't contaminate the AL with epoxy. Use hose clamps clamps or secure it to plywood somehow....?? Hard to say with out seeing what you have.

Wood strip/Fiberglass leading edge

Rusty,
By your video it looks like you have the stock aluminum fairing. Do you have the wood leading edge wrapped in fiberglass installed?
I have an RV-4 and opted to not use the lighter AL gear leg...

you sure can broker it yourself as I did years ago now!? Most kits were straight forward but the "finishing kit" as I recall was more of an issue because of how Van's listed the contents of the kit...

Yes there are definitely two pins which have been pushed together (picture adjusted in Lightroom to see the individual lockpins)....a hammer and solid edge (vise) will fix the problem.

Drain the tank regularly, and even doing that will not guarantee that it will not do this. Usually it will start leaking first and at least give some warning. glad no one was injured..

Nice smoke generation. I noticed your set up and that you have the Oxygen bottle really close to the oil tank......not a good scenario if you have a leak, fire etc. ?? Nice looking clean...

I tried that..... Even welded a bolt onto one end to pack the sand......result 'kink'. :(. This procedure does work with mild steel pipe though.
Maybe for a bend of a few degrees it would turn out...

Unless you have the proper mandrels don't even try to bend this stuff.....it will kink no matter how careful you are.....that's been my experience anyway...

Too much grinding

The original weld is still there, but looks like someone may have been too zealous with the grinder and they ground through the pipe to make it look better. Do not leave as is.

Two styles of cowl....old,new

Two different styles of cowls there......Notice the two on the left have a much smaller spinner, thats the old style cowl. Cowls did not come with the bumps on them, that would have been a builder...

Sneak up on it

When fluting go slow the first few ribs....ie sneak up on the final result. After a few you will get the feel and get them close after a few tries. Seaming pliers work well for de-fluting.
