Eventually after some years your compressor will seem quieter as you slowly go deaf. After 13 years mine initially seemed very loud but now its not so bad.

Springs hold it closed

I put a compression spring on the shaft under knob to keep some tension on the control cable. Keeps the heat box flapper closed with no leaks.

Be careful with control linkages!

I would suggest that you take care here, control linkages are important! For example, make sure each rod end is screwed in more than half-way, so that in the unlikely event of the rod turning later...
