magnetometer magnetic anomaly warning

We have the GMU 22 magnetometer mounted in the left wing per Vans' specifications.

At first, we couldn't pass the magnetometer interference tests for landing light and strobes. This issue was resolved by bringing the ground return from both landing light and nav/strobes back to the fuselage, thus eliminating the currents through the aluminum fuselage.

However, we are still getting a warning signal on the display: "AHARS 1 magnetic anomaly - check installation". I suspect there are still some stray fields generated by the electrical equipment in the wing.

I believe this to be more of a nuisance than actual magnetometer failure, since the mag heading indications don't seem to be affected.

Has anyone else observed this behavior?

Our issue with the GMU 22 in the wingtip was with the ailerons, specifically the galvanized pipe in the leading edge of the ailerons. We had to move the magnetometer forward slightly beyond mid cord to eliminate the interference warnings, which we would only get in a turn, presumably when the aileron would move. It's fine now once we found the sweet spot. All of our lights are grounded back at the fuselage ground bus.
