Paint over Powdercoat

Hello,

I had to take a torch to my canopy frame to get it to line up with the aft bows, and in the process, trashed the powdercoat. Since I am leaning towards sikaflexing my canopy, I'd like to paint the frame with a low gloss black polyurethane paint. Does any one know how to prep the remaining powdercoat to accept a new topcoat?

Also has anyone used a paint called POR15? www.por15.com . Any other paint recs out there?

Thanks,

Pete

Paint

Hi Pete.

In general, the lower the gloss the less the durability. The marine enamel I used sets up harder than the powdercoat.

Don't use the aerosol version, it's Xylene based and will dissolve and crackle other paints.

The canned version that I use is from Cloverdale Paint, which I'm sure you don't have in Minnesota.

How's the canopy frame going?

Frame finally Good!

Hi Vern,

Thanks to your help and a local RV-er with a torch, it is in good shape. We had to cut in 3 places and use the torch to make many small bends to get it to fit.

I'm looking at some gloss 1-part poly-U paint for the frame.

Cheers,

Pete
