VSI fogged up...

I have a 0 - 3000 FPM VSI. I don't know the brand, it is in the panel of the plane I purchased. There is light "fogging" on the interior of the glass front.

Can I dismantle the unit, clean the glass, and then reassemble it, and it still function properly?

It's not so bad that I'm willing to spend $175 on a new one, but I'd like to clean it if possible.

Any ideas? THX.

Chris, yes you can. But you will also then need to perform a static system check to check for leaks which could result from the case or from the static line you disconnect to remove the instrument.

Thanks, Vic. Would the interior fogging be an indication that there was/is a leak somewhere in the instrument?

Thanks again.

Not necessarily. Sometimes it is just a matter of the glass fogging from the chemicals inside the unit degrading due to exposure to sunlight, ozone, etc. Much like the film that gets on the inside of your car windows. :)
