polished with paint, transition method

My paint scheme has paint up to a polished aluminum surface. How would I handle the taping for the conversion, primer,and finish coat? do I use one application of tape, or do I retape after each step? For the finish coat, do I need to move the tape out a smidge to prevent the primer from showing on the edge?
Anyone with exerience with this? Any insight would be appreciated. I'm using the Stewart Systems WB finish.
