painting over stainless steel washers

Quick question...
I'm using some stainless #4 tinnerman washers on my fiberglass aft canopy skirt. I thought I had read somewhere that stainless doesn't take paint very well. If I scuff the washers will I have any problem with paint adhesion?

best way is to glass bead or use a alum oxide blaster. Lightly screw them to a board to hold them and then lightly go at it.
