Tip: Easier Bad Rivet Removal after drilling

After you drill the bad rivet and pop off the head, you find the shop head and body are still tight in the hole. You aren't anxious to use a punch on that thin metal, so what to do?

Use your hand rivet squeezer with only the male die installed. Leave the female die out (leaving a 3/16" hole) and extend the movable shaft up so the 3/16" hole becomes a backing die for the male die to gently push out the rivet stub. It works like a charm, with no hammering, bent metal, etc and only gentle pressure. BTW, I wouldn't recommend using this idea with a pnuematic rivet press.
