Tip: Drilling Upper longeron

When drilling the upper longeron on the newer RV-8 pre-punched fuse kits, the instruction tell you to use clamps to hold the sking flush against the longeron apex. In the forward and mid-skin areas, you will need SEVERAL clamps. Here's another way.

By now you should have plenty of scrap pieces of angle stock. Leftovers from wing jig construction, rolling skins, etc. You can clamp that angle stock in place and it will hold the skin flush for a fair distance. Less clamps, more holes open for drilling. The trick is to make some small wooden spacers to make the angle stock sit high enough to pride access to the holes. .25 - .30 inches should do it, experiment a bit.

Oh yeah, there's a block of wood on the inside for the clamp to squeeze and distribute over about 5 inches.
