Angela & I just returned from the Aviation Safety Seminar at Meacham (KFTW) today, and included was a detailed explanation of the airport renovations that have been in the works for at least 10yrs now. They now have a start date... ok, actually a month. Construction is set to start 'on a Saturday in June'. This may not seem like a big deal except for the fact that Runway 16/34 and taxiway A (the taxiway that is commonly mistaken for the runway) will be trading duties during the construction and the new runway will be given a different designator (15/33). Another major change is the ILS approach to 16/34 will be shutdown during construction. (by the way, the runway swap, and the ILS shutdown are scheduled to happen overnight... litterally!) There were many other changes listed as well (such as taxiway closures, etc).
I'm only passing along info as we were encourage to at the meeting. So don't take anything mentioned above as gospel as a lot could change between now and June... just be aware, and more diligent as the time draws closer. It was also mentioned that more of these 'construction update' meetings will be held as the start date gets closer.
