Garmin SL-30

I've talked with a number of pilots that fly light IFR with a King KX-155GS without a CDI.

I'm wondering if you can do the same with a Garmin SL-30. In other words, fly ILS and VOR approaches with just the SL-30, no CDI?

You are unable to fly an ILS with the built in CDI because no Glide Slope is presented. I would not recommend using the built in CDI for a VOR approach in real IFR.
