Canada: Ottawa & Quebec

We will be stopping in Ottawa and will take in the museum and Quebec city to see the water falls. Is there either points of interest that you all might suggest to see while there. Thanks, Larry

In Ottawa right near Parliament Hill are The Canadian War museum and the Museum of Civilization, and both are very good. Good restaurants next door in Byward Market area. There is also a well regarded aviation museum close by as well, though I have not been to it.

Info

If flying, fly into Rockcliff airport, right in Ottawa, great aviation museum on site. There are lots of rvers nearby at smith falls and carp airports. I am sure locals can add a lot of tips shortly. If you fly into quebec city, very nice and busy airport. You will love old quebec city, just awesome history and city to walk/enjoy.

Enjoy your visit.

Lot's to see...

Ottawa is a great place to visit and has much to offer.

Like Rick said, Rockcliffe (http://ourairports.com/airports/CYRO/pilot-info.html) has the Aviation museum (http://www.casmuseum.techno-science.ca/) right there, and it's a good one. Ottawa has so many museums, that it would take a few days to see them all. Across the river at the Gatineau airport is Vintage Wings (http://www.vintagewings.ca/en-ca/home.aspx). There they have an awesome collection of warbirds (Spit, Mustang, Hurriance, F-86, P-40, Harvard, which all fly) I'm sure you could get in to have to a have a look. Rob Erdos (on the forum building a -6) is one of Vintage's pilots.

In Smith's Falls, Kevin Horton is based with his Golden Hawk RV-8, and I believe Mark Richardson is in Carp with his RV-8.

Quebec City is absolutely beautiful, steeped in much history. I stayed there two summers ago and stayed at the Chateau Frontenac (http://www.fairmont.com/frontenac-quebec/), which is a very historic, and expensive hotel. The boardwalk and citadel is all within walking distance.

If you need specific details, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers,

Don

Yes Quebec City is a must stop. However, I would suggest not using CYQB airport as landing fee and ramp fee have become unreasonable for private aircraft. Use Neuville (CNV9) instead; 18 miles west of QB city. What you will save per day will pay for your rental which you will need anyway. Enjoy
Michel
