Fire Extinquisher Questions

I need to replace the fire extinguisher in my -4. The other day I noticed that it was completely discharged. I didn't notice any residue.

Anyway I need a new one (or to recharge this one) and am wondering if anything new has come up in the last 5 or so years that might make me want to switch from my Model 340 Amerex Halon 1211 unit.

I did find this link
http://www.h3r.com/products/faq.htm

that seems to suggest a 1211-1301 mix works better than straight 1211. Spruce sells these starting at around $50. Can I refill my 340 with 1211-1301? How big an extinguisher are people using (mine weighs 1lb 7oz)?

Thanks for any insight!

Fire Extinguishers

I've been thinking about putting an "AFFF" system in my 8. I need to do more research but it's an aqueous foaming film that seems to be really tenacious in extinguishing flames and keeping them extinguished. It's being used in Auto Racing and seems to be pretty neat. They use a bottle with two nozzles, one for the engine compartment and one for the cockpit. I'm not sure how it would do on an engine fire in the air, but I'm sure it would be better than halon.

It's pricey compared to chemical powder and halon, but the thought of an airborne fire scares the h--- out of me.

Here's the link to an Auto Supply source.

Sorry the Auto Supply link doesn't fit. Do the first part and search "fire extinguishers".
