David Casey

There was an accident in the waters off of Oceano airport yesterday. Not much information out yet, but the sheriff identified the pilot as David Casey of Friday Harbor, WA. His information matches dcasey1 from these forums: an RV-3 and RV-8 owner. At this point, I have no idea if this was an RV accident or not. They haven't recovered the plane yet.

Dave was a friend and fellow Reno racer. He flew his RV-3 at Reno in 2012, which he then sold, and he finished his RV-8 in 2012 (which is being painted at this time) with my hangar next-door neighbor Scott. Scott told me about the accident this morning. Dave was reportedly flying his Varga with a friend, and both were killed. Not much in the way of detail is available at all, and no speculation offered. Dave was a true gent?a 777 Captain with American, who flew with the CAF and owned the Varga and a Yak, and built a beautiful RV-8. Really good guy! Gonna miss him!

Dave invited me to look at his new RV8 the day before his first flight as I was at Stead that day. He spent about an hour talking to me about the project.
